Business Development Data Specialist
Reports to Business Development Manager
Overview
The business development data specialist will gather and scrutinize new matter intake, with a particular view toward capturing key business and matter attributes for use in marketing and business development opportunities and analysis. The specialist will also assist with maintaining a deals and transactions database and various associated business development outputs.
Job Description
- Proactively track data on firm experience across practice areas, industries and geographies
- Follow up with attorneys on a daily basis to obtain complete information about new matters
- Obtain and record matter information in a timely manner and within required deadlines
- Coordinate with the business development manager to maintain experience databases, including facilitating the input of new information and maintaining the integrity and completeness of the database content
- Assist with the integration of information between firm systems and other internal and external resources to develop a comprehensive view of firm data and experience
- Produce reports from database content
- Review industry classifications selected on new matter forms and reconcile if necessary
- Assist with league table compilation and reconciliation and quarterly summaries
Desired Skills/Knowledge
Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services organization, with knowledge of law firm and practice area organization and structure.
- Expertise with and appreciation of data analytics
- Ability to work with and be reliable to fellow team members and firm support departments, e.g., Marketing, Accounting, IT and the Library
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with all levels of firm personnel, including attorneys and support staff
- Very strong attention to detail, accuracy and organization – must be able to work in a thorough, diligent manner
- Ability to work proactively and with minimal supervision
- Ability to prioritize and work within tight deadlines
Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree is required, with law firm or law department experience strongly preferred.
