Technical Advisor

Large, global, law firm is seeking a technical advisor for their New York office.  The Technical Advisor will work, both independently and within a team, to conduct advanced analysis of relevant technologies, scientific literature, patents and other materials for intellectual property matters within the Life Sciences IP group.

In this capacity, the Technical Advisor will:

• Assist attorneys with legal issues related to patent litigations and pre-suit due diligence investigations, with a focus on the areas of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and chemistry;
• Conduct technical analysis of relevant publications, patents, and other scientific analysis;
• Collaborate with attorneys and experts to develop positions related to patent infringement and patent validity issues;
• Collaborate with experts and attorneys to prepare expert reports;
• Assist in preparations for depositions of experts and other technical witnesses;
• Identify key experts in relevant fields and assist in retaining experts;
• Perform tasks in an efficient and cost-effective manner;
• Meet firm’s annual billable hours requirement; and
• Work beyond scheduled hours as required.

Qualifications

• Advanced to expert knowledge in the fields of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and chemistry, or related fields, with an advanced technical degree and industrial experience strongly preferred;
• Strong analytical skills in the relevant technical areas;
• Ability to formulate innovative solutions to technical problems;
• Strong written and oral communication skills;
• Prior experience in a legal environment (preferred).
