Americas Media Relations Manager

Position Summary

The Firm’s communications function, which is comprised of media relations, marketing communications and internal communications, is focused on 1) protecting and building the Firm’s reputation as an elite global law firm and employer of choice, and 2) Supporting the Firm’s business objectives by influencing perceptions of the Firm among key stakeholders.

The Americas Media Relations Manager will work alongside another Americas Media Relations Manager in New York and share responsibility for managing a Global Media Relations Specialist in Tampa. He/She will report directly to the Global Media Relations Director and also take instruction from the Global Head of Communications and at times the Chief Marketing Officer.
The individual will work closely with colleagues in Marketing and Business Development and directly with partners in order to provide top tier and trade media relations guidance, with an emphasis on proactive work to help manage reputation, join public conversations about topics in the news, and share practice-area expertise.

Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 

Media Relations

  • Create and manage several practice-wide and Americas-based media relations programs
  • Track news and create shareable metrics
  • Develop and maintain new media relationships
  • Develop press releases and other communications vehicles to deliver Firm news externally
  • Leverage Firm thought leadership for media audiences
  • Manage key Firmwide surveys and awards
  • Develop innovative ways in which to increase partner, practice and overall Firm visibility
  • Assist in managing public relations agency day-to-day activities

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience working in a media relations for large, complex organization or PR agency
  • Strong writing skills; attention to detail
  • Confidence and credible approach in dealing with senior leadership
  • Able to prioritize and manage workload in order to deliver quality work to deadlines
  • Able to communicate effectively and persuasively with a wide range of people across the Firm
  • Understanding of partnership structure and how decisions are made in flat organizations
  • Social media prowess
  • Strong PowerPoint, Word, and Excel skills
