Bankruptcy Paralegal

Premier, global, law firm recruits graduates of four-year colleges and universities with strong academic backgrounds.  Candidates applying for the Bankruptcy Paralegal position should be detail-oriented, have excellent organizational ability and strong written and oral communication skills.

The Bankruptcy Paralegal reports to the Director of Litigation Resources and works under the direct supervision of lawyers, assisting them in most aspects of preparation for bankruptcy and related adversary proceedings, and with certain other client advice matters.  Tasks that may be assigned to the Bankruptcy Paralegal are extremely diverse and too numerous to itemize, but generally include:

  • selecting, organizing, indexing electronically, maintaining and summarizing case documents
  • assembling sets of court papers and exhibits; arranging for service upon the court and other parties by mail or Managing Attorney’s Office
  • proofreading, blue booking and cite-checking client alert memorandum; coordinating publication of same with firm’s Business Development Group
  • searching for/obtaining, bankruptcy court pleadings, orders and public filings of distressed companies
  • monitoring newswires and publications pertaining to developments in bankruptcy/insolvency generally and proceedings related to specific companies
  • conducting factual research and analysis
  • scheduling, handling logistics and administering monthly practice group meetings, including Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars
  • reviewing firm billing data while concurrently preparing exhibits to monthly fee statements/fee applications for compensation
  • adding content such as precedents and research materials to internal electronic databases and practice group’s wiki
  • translating foreign language business correspondence and legal documents (subject to the paralegal’s ability)
  • assisting in the firm’s pro bono case work
  • may involve occasional travel with attorneys to client locations

Although not a requirement for this position, we actively recruit individuals with foreign language capabilities, particularly Spanish, Portuguese, German, French and Italian.

Candidates considering our paralegal program are expected to make at least a two-year commitment to the firm.
