Legal Training Assistant

Reports to:  Legal Training Manager

Associate Professional Development Department

Responsibilities

  • Training programs
    • Organize and assist in the execution of New Associate Orientation, Core Curriculum and other trainings, including liaising with other Firm departments to schedule, plan and execute pre- and post-program logistics.
    • Coordinate the Firm’s deposition program, working with the Professional Development team and pro bono coordinator to inform potential candidates, schedule rotations, discuss program details and address questions.
    • Distribute and analyze participant satisfaction surveys, working with other CLE and Training personnel to improve the effectiveness of training programs.
    • Work with training team personnel and attorneys in preparing training program materials.
    • Track lawyer developmental needs, liaising with the Professional Development team to ensure that training programs are informed by annual associate reviews, staffing meetings and mentor debriefings.
    • Publicize the Firm’s training resources and improve information-sharing among global offices.
    • Liaise with training contacts in other offices for multi-office programs and events.
  • Associate coaching
    • Facilitate the Firm’s private coaching program, working with the Training team and Professional Development team to coordinate the pairing of lawyers with coaches, provide coaching options and track lawyer development.
    • Assist in researching and interviewing potential coaches and consultants, maintaining a library of options for lawyers.
  • CLEs
    • Work with CLE personnel to issue CLE credits to lawyers, maintaining an expertise in the CLE rules as needed.
    • Publicize CLE opportunities (both internal and external) and assist in logistical planning of CLE programming.
  • Monitor weekly arrivals and departures of lawyers and ensure that all relevant department files are updated to reflect status and developmental needs of current associates.
  • General work and assistance on ad-hoc projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Experience in a law firm or other professional services environment preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, client service, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exercises good judgment, has excellent organization skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently, plan ahead, push projects forward and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with viDesktop a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Lotus Notes.
