Director-Business Development and Marketing

Reports to: Firm Senior Director of Strategic Marketing

 Premier, global, law firm is currently seeking a Director of Business Development & Marketing for the Litigation practice group (LPG). This is a senior administrative position whose primary responsibility will be to help formulate strategic business development and marketing initiatives for the practice and the firm.

Reporting to the Firm Senior Director of Strategic Marketing and working closely with the Litigation Practice Group Leader, this position will be responsible for developing LPG strategies for expanding the practice through marketing and business development efforts. Responsibilities include working with practice leaders to develop marketing and business development strategies for various components of the practice; communicating business development goals and strategies to the attorneys in the group; identifying and coordinating key sponsorships; and coordinating with the firm’s Public Relations team to build the profile of the practice.

The incumbent will also be responsible for managing a team of business development/marketing professionals; supporting attorneys and colleagues with request-for-proposals and new business pitch responses; supporting practice group and firm marketing and public relations initiatives; drafting internal and external communications, including collateral materials; managing mailing lists, contact lists and client profiles; developing speaking and authorship opportunities with professional and trade organizations; updating and maintaining content on the litigation portion of Firm website; and collaborating with other marketing, communications and graphics team members.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to synthesize information into professional marketing communications; be proficient in the use of PowerPoint, spreadsheet, and database applications; and have exceptional writing skills in order to draft pieces for the Firm Practice group leader and put together high-level business plans. A professional writing sample is requested for candidates to be considered. This position requires a very high energy level and flexibility due to a busy workload and occasional business travel. The ideal candidate will thrive on working in a fast-paced environment, must be able to quickly think on their feet, be creative, proactive and demonstrate the ability to think out of the box.

The successful candidate will have a minimum a Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university plus 10 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, business and practice development, or a related field, including at least five years in a leadership role, managing people and projects; knowledge of the competitive landscape challenging major national law firms with substantial litigation practices; demonstrated capacity to develop and implement strategic business plans; the ability to project personal credibility, professionalism, and a high degree of integrity among Firm leadership, clients, and Firm management; and the ability to function independently and effectively in a matrix organization. Graduate degree and demonstrated success in a mid to large size professional services organization strongly preferred.

This position can be located in any one of the firm’s larger offices-Philadelphia, Boston, New York, Washington, DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles.
