Court Coordinator
Position Summary
Responsible for searching, filing and retrieving documentation from various courts.
Responsibilities
- Serves and files documents in the various courts and agencies, including delivering courtesy copies to judges.
- Retrieves and copies legal documents from court and administrative agencies at the request the Managing Clerk and attorneys.
- Alerts attorneys of incoming court papers, notices and impending deadlines.
- Advises attorneys of newly instituted procedures.
- Responsible for answering calendar calls from various courts.
- Obtains docket sheets by utilizing P.A.C.E.R. and NYSCEF.
- Orders documents from external service providers for out-of-state courts.
- Monitors cases in federal and state courts, and governmental and administrative agencies.
- Researches cases by various methods including Pacer, Westlaw, Internet, newspapers and magazines.
- Reviews documents before service and filing for correct form, signatures, required filing fees, required number of copies, etc.
- Confirms court dates and opens new cases.
- Tracks and maintains relevant information within the firm’s docketing system.
- Appears at calendar calls.
Experience and Skills
- At least 3 years of experience of similar experience within a law firm preferred.
- Excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing
- Willing and able to travel regularly (mostly via public transport).
- Working knowledge of docketing, calendaring and calculation of time.
- Understanding of electronic case filing.
- Strong working knowledge of the CPLR, FRCP, local court rules and procedures.
- Notary Public.
- Process server license a plus.
