Business Development Research Analyst
Job Description
Help develop the practice group’s business planning process by providing targeted research on potential clients to create a focused and strategic overall marketing & business development process that will continually increase Firm’s strategic presence in the legal industry.
Primary Responsibilities and/or Essential Functions
- Work on business development projects on such matters as determining competitive law firm market share and client base.
- Develop and present complex data in a timely, user-friendly fashion for attorneys
- Work with business development group to identify possible approaches to prospecting, targeting and understanding sales leads, personnel, strategies, etc.
- Identify new sources of information and resources to continually ramp up the firm’s competitive marketing intelligence capability.
- Evaluate new databases and related job tools as to their usefulness for Business Development purposes.
- Collaborate with the practice heads to create of business development plans by outlining the litigation and/or corporate transaction history of a particular company or industry, tracking and summarizing developing trends within practice areas, creating profiles of prospective client companies as a companion product for department’s pitch books.
- Development of overall Business Development strategy, process and product to drive the practice, firm and individual attorney marketing initiatives.
- Work on special projects as needed.
- Any additional responsibilities as required by management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- At least 2+ years of business development or paralegal experience within a “big law” firm or professional services setting. Supporting a Corporate Practice department preferred.
- Strong understanding of legal and business databases (e.g. Pacer, Westlaw, CapitalIQ, Mergermarket, Firm360, etc.) required.
- Strong quantitative abilities; advanced Excel essential.
- Strong research skills required, previous experience identifying potential business opportunities preferred.
- Ability to see projects from start through completion. Manage deadlines and keep stakeholders aware of status.
- Work with minimum supervision; make sound judgment and decisions, understanding the ramifications of each choice.
- Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively as a team member Strong analytical capabilities and understanding of financial data.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to communicate with staff and attorneys.
Education/Certifications
- Bachelors or equivalent education and work experience required.
- Masters or related graduate degree preferred.
