Litigation Business Development Manager

The Litigation Business Development Manager works with the Director of Business Development and Communications and the Litigation Partners to develop, implement and manage the Firm’s litigation business development initiatives, including creating best practices in terms of business development plans, proposals and other forms of presentations.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • working in tandem with Partners to manage the development and assembling of various types of pitch and presentation materials, including department overviews, practice descriptions, transaction lists, Partner biographies, etc.,;
  • reviewing and evaluating pitch and presentation materials and offering improvements and ideas for best practices;
  • initiating Business Development projects and developing ideas for new business efforts, focusing on various industries, clients or practice areas;
  • overseeing Business Development Analysts and Coordinators who have primary responsibility for assembling litigation pitches, operating litigation-oriented seminars, updating materials and handling special research projects involving the Firm’s litigation development efforts;
  • summarizing news and other significant developments on a regular basis (major suit developments, executive moves and other events about which the Partners should know) and encouraging team to keep in constant contact with the clients, prospects, other related parties and Partners;
  • helping to identify potential new business opportunities;
  • monitoring the maintenance of business development databases to ensure that case descriptions are up-to-date, accurate and have been approved for business development materials (pitches, presentations, press releases, media kits and other collateral materials);
  • overseeing and ensuring the maintenance and updating of business development materials (Firm overview, practice descriptions, transaction/deal lists, Partner biographies, etc.);
  • collaborating with other departments, such as IT, Records and others, to ensure that the business development databases are consistent with Firm standards;
  • helping to coordinate the preparation of a biweekly report for the partnership regarding new business pitches relating to the litigation department;
  • providing an annual plan of goals and tactics, including the identification of specific client opportunities;
  • initiating efforts to identify and evaluate new business research sources and in developing “best practices” in research;
  • gathering information about both current clients and prospects using internal and external data sources;
  • assigning research projects and ensuring quality of projects assigned to the business development coordinators;
  • and performing other duties, as assigned. 

Job Requirements include:

  • JD degree;
  • prior experience as a Litigation Associate at a respected law firm;
  • experience in management and business development;
  • excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • the proven ability to conduct research;
  • a high standard of judgment;
  • the ability to maintain confidentiality and exhibit discretion;
  • an extremely detail-oriented work ethic;
  • the ability to maintain composure in all situations;
  • the ability to motivate staff and partners;
  • the ability to work well across the Firm, particularly with fellow managers;
  • the ability to use Pacer and Excel;
  • familiarity with Bloomberg preferred;
  • and the availability to work additional hours, as needed.
