Summary
This position supports the Director, Client Development Litigation in the Washington, DC office and the wider Client Development team on a wide variety of marketing and business development projects including research, market visibility programs, networking resources and related initiatives. The Coordinator, Client Development is responsible for developing an understanding of relevant DC-office, Litigation Department and firm-wide priorities in order to properly assist with activities that support those interests. The ideal candidate will have strong multi-tasking skills, is able to work well under tight deadlines, has superior written and oral communication skills, and interacts professionally with management/lawyers and personnel at all levels of the firm.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- While at times supporting programs across a variety of legal departments, provides administrative support for marketing and client development activities related to the Litigation/Controversy department. Provides targeted research upon request in support of client development efforts.
- Prepares marketing material packets (pitch packets) for Litigation/Controversy partners in an effort to support and learn more about strategic pitch opportunities.
- Works with colleagues to support contact management efforts via InterAction (including database and contact updates, development of targeted marketing lists, tagging client activities, etc.)
- Works closely with the Litigation Client Development Specialist to develop tools and processes that promote follow through with new contacts made by attorneys at client meetings and industry conferences to achieve positive outcomes. Researches and identifies new conferences offering speaking opportunities for Litigation/Controversy attorneys, tracking deadlines for topic submissions, etc.
- Works with colleagues on various aspects of the Washington, DC office’s cultural/sporting event ticket allocations, including one-off requests. Responsible for tracking all details of requests and actual attendance to said events.
- Supports senior Client Development staff on development and implementation of strategic marketing initiatives, including Litigation/Controversy Department’s visibility efforts.
- Supports firm-wide initiatives such as the Women’s Leadership, Alumni and Diversity initiatives as needed.
- Works on select projects with the public relations team to support market recognition initiatives and legal directories (Chambers USA, Legal500, etc.). This may also include press release and internal/external communications support.
- Acts in conjunction with other Client Development service areas to support marketing communications-related activities, including but not limited to the firm’s client feedback program and similar activities.
- Performs special projects as requested by Client Development leadership team.
- Contributes to the firm’s Service Excellence initiative to consistently improve its image internally and externally. Displays professionalism, good judgment, quality service and a “can do” attitude to internal members/departments of the firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with stressful deadlines and top-notch expectations for attention to detail and quality.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills; fluency with event-related processes preferred.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision; ability to take initiative, prioritize actions steps and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail with a strong ability to proof copy and inspect materials for technical functionality and style consistency.
Education
- BA/BS required
Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in legal or other services marketing environment preferred.
- Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are important, and knowledge of InterAction preferred.
- Working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style preferred.
- Experience using and/or interest in learning other marketing-related tools and technologies is desirable.
