Billing/Accounting Manager
Global, law firm is seeking a Billing/Accounting Manager in our New York Office. The Billing/Accounting Manager is responsible for the overall management of complex client billing and e-billing. The Billing/Accounting Manager is also responsible for accounting operations/billing management and full charge bookkeeping. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree plus 7-10 years’ experience at a management level. Must have Billing experience.
The Billing/Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day administration of billing procedures including direction of accurate cash applications and management/preparation of complex client billing and e-billing. Manage and supervise the New York office Accounting and Billing staff. This includes performance reviews, hiring new personnel, training, etc. Oversee and manage the billing process for the New York office including pre-bills, invoices, e-billing, cash application and monitoring past due accounts. Oversee training and support to members of other departments concerning accounting procedures as they relate to the accurate preparation and submission of paperwork to the Accounting Department. Maintain hands-on knowledge of all accounting-related functions in order to provide proper training, backup, and support including, but may not be limited to, accounts payable, cash receipts, petty cash, advance accounts, attorney reimbursements, and billing. Provide full charge bookkeeping assistance which includes preparation and input of journal entries including standard journal entries, reconciling and reclassifying entries in general ledger accounts. Analyze balance sheet and income statement activity to assure accuracy. Identify and analyze variations to budget and participate in preparation of budget. Work with vendors to implement automated on-line billing or invoicing systems. Provide backup to other areas of accounting when needed, such as client services, shared billings, and annual system maintenance projects.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent and twelve or more years related experience (with 7-10 years’ experience at a management level) preferably in a legal or professional services firm; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong supervisory experience and knowledge of the accounting/billing processes and reporting requirements used by a large national law firm are preferred. Computer proficient with extensive knowledge and understanding of Accounting database systems (CMS, ARCS), HRIS (PeopleSoft), Excel, Outlook, and MS Word preferred. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with courtesy and diplomacy, efficiently follow written and verbal instructions, provide information, and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of attorneys, clients, staff, and outside contacts. Analytical skills requiring an aptitude for detail, precision, and logic with comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices in order to perform essential duties. Exhibit high degree of initiative in exercising independent judgment and making decisions in order to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detail-oriented work environment. Ability to identify and analyze complex accounting and billing issues and problems and to recommend and implement solutions. Proactive with excellent troubleshooting, problem resolution, and follow-through skills. Supervisory/managerial skills necessary in order to interact and communicate with subordinates, provide instruction/direction/training, determine work priorities, and coordinate the activities of a work team. Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations and apply mathematical concepts when computing, reconciling balances, verifying numerical data, preparing various accounting reports, providing back-up assistance and support in performing all aspects of accounting operations, and participating in preparation of the budget. Ability to work overtime as needed in order to meet Accounting/Billing deadlines.
