Senior Trusts & Estates Paralegal

Seeking an experienced Trusts & Estates Paralegal with the ability to investigate facts and prepare documents to assist and support the work of a partner or associate in connection with the administration of estate and trusts for 1-INW individuals.
Essential Functions

  • Prepare probate documents.
  • File the documents (probate/administration) in court.
  • Ascertain and collect decedent’s assets.
  • Establish estate’s account.
  • Obtain EIN’s.
  • All other aspects of estate administration including paying bills and helping executors comply with their duties.
  • Gather information to submit to the accountant for preparation of fiduciary income tax returns.
  • Obtain date of death valuations (reports and appraisals).
  • Assist trustees with the administration of trusts and calculating annual trustees’ commissions.
  • Prepare Federal and NYS Estate Tax Returns.
  • Draft documents such as Receipts and Releases and Agreements Settling Account.
  • All other necessary duties as requested by attorneys.

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 3+ years of solid Trusts & Estates experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including ability to proofread documents for spelling and grammatical errors.
  • Must be proficient in completing Form 706 (Estate Tax Form).
  • Knowledge of Quicken and Fiduciary Accounting a plus.
  • Familiarity with Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Trust & Estate software.
  • Familiarity with NYSBA Surrogate’s Court Program.
  • Ability to coordinate resources, plan workload, prioritize and multi-task effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interaction with clients and all levels of Firm management.
