Senior Legal Talent Manager-M&A

Summary

A top global law firm is looking for a Legal Talent Senior Manager who will be responsible for supporting junior associates across all Corporate Department practice groups, with a primary focus on the M&A group, encompassing talent management, staffing, integration, the evaluation process, and strategic planning.  This is an Exempt role that reports into the Legal Talent Management Director – Corporate and is based in the New York office.  This role is on a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic partner to Corporate partner leadership on all matters relating to junior associate talent management across practice groups, including workforce planning, staffing optimization, utilization analysis, and ongoing monitoring of workloads to deliver data-driven recommendations that align associate deployment with departmental and firm priorities.
  • Leverage financial reporting, analytics, and benchmarking to monitor growth and improve associate productivity; collaborate with assigning partners, with a particular focus on the M&A group, in connection with same.
  • Strategize with the Managing Partners-Corporate Associates and members of the Talent Management team to develop, implement, and enforce firm policies and new initiatives.
  • Direct and manage all aspects of the rotation program, including end-of-rotation reviews, practice group preference surveys, individual and firmwide communications, and assignment of mentors.
  • Oversee the end-of rotation evaluation process, and monitor identified performance issues.
  • Meet regularly with and serve as a resource for junior associates to assess morale, identify training needs, answer questions, and address concerns in connection with professional development, interpersonal issues, and firm life.
  • Assist with lateral integration and onboarding to facilitate effective transition into the department, with particular attention to the M&A practice group.
  • Work with the Events team to coordinate and plan social events for junior associates, and oversee planning and coordination of broader Corporate Department meetings and events.
  • Liaise with other administrative departments, including Finance, Recruiting, Professional Development & Training, Career Development, Inclusion, and Business Development in furtherance of the above.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree required, J.D. preferred.
  • A minimum of eight years of progressive experience in a large law firm environment, with experience in practice group management, talent management, or associate development leadership.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with attorneys and staff throughout the Firm.
  • Highly organized and self-directed approach to work with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated success in prioritizing, managing multiple projects, and thriving in a fast-paced environment with intense client service orientation.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional collaboration, influence without direct authority, and drive consensus among diverse stakeholders
  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a record of identifying operational inefficiencies and implementing creative, practical improvements.
  • Demonstrated experience exercising sound judgment and maintaining the highest degree of discretion with respect to confidential personnel matters and sensitive firm information.

Compensation

  • $150,000.00-$170,000.00 annually plus bonus.
