Summary

The Lateral Conflicts Analyst plays a key role in supporting the Firm’s risk management and professional responsibility functions, with a primary focus on incoming lateral candidates and group hiring. This includes assisting in the analysis of conflicts issues related to the hiring of partners, counsel, associates, and staff, as well as the review of potentially portable new client and matter business associated with lateral hires.

The role involves conducting conflicts searches and research, organizing and synthesizing information, and supporting lateral attorneys and firm decision‑makers in the analysis of complex conflicts of interest. The Lateral Conflicts Analyst supports informed business decisions related to attorney mobility while helping ensure compliance with applicable professional responsibility rules and Firm policies.

The Lateral Conflicts Analyst works closely with partners, lawyers, recruiting personnel, and business professionals across a global platform and supports the Firm’s broader Professional Responsibility and compliance functions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct conflicts searches and identify potential conflicts of interest arising from lateral attorney, partner, and group hires, including review of prior matters, client relationships, and firm affiliations.
  • Liaise with lateral candidates, partners, recruiting, and other stakeholders to request clarifying or supplemental information related to conflicts questionnaires, and facilitate timely resolution of conflicts questions.
  • Perform conflicts searches based on information provided by lateral candidates through the Firm’s conflicts questionnaire, including prior matters, clients, adverse parties, firm affiliations, and related entities.
  • Review and analyze conflicts search results to identify potential, actual, and perceived conflicts, and escalate novel, high‑risk, or sensitive issues to the Lateral Conflicts Attorneys or other senior team members as appropriate.
  • Prepare clear, concise summaries of conflicts issues related to lateral hires, articulating legal relationships, risk considerations, and clearance status both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of conflicts, lateral, and matter databases, including updating, modifying, and closing records as required.
  • Exercise sound judgment and strong analytical skills when evaluating conflicts risks and determining when escalation or additional review is warranted.
  • Assist with special projects within the Conflicts team and Professional Responsibility department, including process improvements, lateral‑specific workflow enhancements, and systems‑related initiatives.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a law firm conflicts, new business intake, or professional responsibility department, with experience supporting lateral attorney hires strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in corporate and legal research using a variety of corporate and legal databases and research resources.
  • Strong analytical skills and sound judgment, with the ability to evaluate complex legal and factual relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely explain conflicts issues and risk considerations to lawyers and business professionals.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple lateral reviews and competing priorities in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in developing subject‑matter expertise in conflicts, professional responsibility rules, and Firm policies, including those applicable to lateral hiring.
  • Aptitude for learning and working with new systems, including the ability to contribute to discussions regarding enhancements to conflicts and intake technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and sound judgment, as well as collaboratively with lawyers and business professionals at all levels of a global law firm, with tact and diplomacy.

Compensation

  • $100,000.00-$110,000.00 plus bonus.
