M&A Business Analyst

Summary

A top global law firm is seeking an M&A Business Analyst to support the continued growth of its market-leading M&A practice. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply analytical insight, commercial awareness, and strategic thinking to drive business opportunities and deepen client relationships.

As part of the business development team, the Analyst will work closely with colleagues across BD, Marketing, and Communications, as well as partners and lawyers across the firm, to monitor market activity, identify opportunities, and deliver actionable intelligence that supports business strategy and client engagement.

 Responsibilities

  • Proactively monitor key clients, prospects, and markets to identify new business and cross-selling opportunities in real time.

  • Establish and maintain customized news alerts and trackers to capture relevant developments and trends.

  • Gather, analyze, and synthesize data from diverse sources—industry publications, government filings, financial news, and digital platforms—to inform business strategy.

  • Collaborate with the Competitive Intelligence team to deliver in-depth research and insights on companies, sectors, and emerging trends.

  • Maintain and update prospecting tools, coverage lists, and reporting dashboards.

  • Translate complex data into clear, concise, and actionable intelligence for BD colleagues and firm partners.

  • Develop a strong understanding of the firm’s clients, practices, and competitors to guide ongoing monitoring initiatives.

  • Partner with BD team members to ensure research efforts align with the firm’s strategic priorities.

  • Perform additional related duties as needed to support the success of the BD team and firm initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • 4-5 years of experience in a business development, competitive intelligence, or market analysis role.

  • Understanding of M&A markets or related financial sectors preferred.

  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to distill complex information into concise, actionable insights.

  • Discretion, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.

  • Highly collaborative team player with a proactive mindset and “no task too small” attitude.

  • Strong time management skills and flexibility to respond to business needs outside traditional hours.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

  • Experience with corporate research platforms such as Bloomberg preferred.

Compensation: The anticipated range for this position is: $120,000.00-$140,000.00, plus bonus.
