Summary
The Associate Director of Media Relations plays a key leadership role in shaping and elevating the firm’s public profile through strategic media engagement and communications initiatives. This individual will lead proactive media relations efforts across practice groups, industries, and markets, working in close collaboration with firm leadership, attorneys, and business development teams.
This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of media dynamics and experience managing high-performing teams. The Associate Director will report to the Director of Communications and work closely with the Chief Marketing Officer, guiding media strategy while overseeing execution by junior and mid-level team members.
Responsibilities

Lead the firm’s media relations strategy across all practice areas, aligning efforts with business goals and communications priorities.

Serve as a strategic advisor to partners and senior stakeholders on media opportunities, thought leadership, and reputational positioning.

Oversee the execution of media outreach, including pitch development, content calendars, byline placement, and press announcements.

Manage and mentor Communications team members, fostering a culture of proactive outreach, strategic thinking, and continuous improvement.

Build and maintain strong relationships with top-tier national, business, and legal/trade media; serve as a key media contact for the firm.

Collaborate with Marketing, Content, and Business Development teams on firmwide campaigns and major announcements to ensure message consistency and brand alignment.

Support firm-level communications, including lateral partner announcements, crisis communications, and executive visibility initiatives.

Monitor media performance metrics and generate regular reporting to assess impact and optimize strategies.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field.

Minimum 10 years of experience in public relations, journalism, or media strategy—experience in professional or financial services is highly preferred.

Proven success in managing teams and developing talent in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.

Strong relationships with top-tier journalists and editors, with a track record of securing high-impact media coverage.

Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Confident communicator with experience advising and presenting to senior executives or attorneys.

Skilled in using media metrics and analytics to measure success and inform strategy.

Must be available for a hybrid work schedule, with in-office presence as required by the department.
Compensation: $170,00.00-$225,000.00 annually, plus bonus.
