Senior E-Discovery Counsel

Reports to: Paralegal & Litigation Support Committee (or Discovery Partner?) 

Summary

Working closely with the CIO and Litigation Support Manager, the E-Discovery Counsel will provide the vision, direction and leadership to assure that Firm has a leading electronic discovery services team to support the Firm’s Litigation practices.  The E-Discovery Counsel will also advise clients and case teams in designing and implementing E-Discovery plans in the context of complex litigation, arbitration or other disputes.

Responsibilities 

  • Develop and maintain a forward-looking strategic plan for litigation technology at the firm and provide strategic direction to a team of E-Discovery Attorneys.
  • Champion the Litigation Technology team’s capabilities both internally and with clients by creating comprehensive handbook, training materials, leading educational sessions, and promoting the team’s value through strategic outreach.
  • Drive innovation and implement strategic initiatives within the E-Discovery Practice Group.
  • Serve as the firm’s subject matter expert on E-Discovery best practices, ensuring alignment with legal, regulatory, and operational standards.
  • Develop and execute firmwide strategies to increase utilization of the E-Discovery team through outreach, attorney training sessions, and regular updates on new developments.
  • Provide hands-on management and consultation for complex E-Discovery matters, advising clients on best practices across litigations, investigations, and regulatory matters.
  • Manage the use of key review platforms (e.g., Relativity, Recommend) and advanced analytics tools (e.g., TAR, predictive coding, ECA), staying current on emerging technologies.
  • Advise legal, compliance, and investigative stakeholders on E-Discovery strategies in alignment with firm policies, industry regulations, and data protection laws.
  • Integrate E-Discovery practices with related disciplines such as Information Governance, Data Privacy, Cybersecurity, IT, and Compliance.
  • Continuously assess and enhance E-Discovery policies, procedures, and workflows to drive efficiency and defensibility.
  • Design and implement cost-effective, scalable workflows to improve speed-to-evidence and client outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain key documentation, including ESI protocols, Protective Orders, review guides, SOPs, and cross-border data handling procedures.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning across the E-Discovery team.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics, and dashboards to track team performance, cost control, and strategic impact. 

Qualifications

  • JD degree from an ABA-accredited institution.
  • Membership in good standing of the Bar.
  • Strong analytical abilities and leadership skills.  Superb oral and written communications skills.  Independent judgment and discretion.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience and ability to lead professional development efforts.
  • At least 10 years of experience coordinating the E-Discovery phases of complex matters across the EDRM.
  • Extensive experience with all aspects of the EDRM and litigation readiness.  Technical proficiency handling discovery matters and platforms, like Relativity and Concordance.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence technologies for litigation and the ability to utilize those technologies in practice.
  • Experience conducting document review.
  • Knowledge regarding attorney-client and work product privilege and ability to train others on same in a document review setting.
  • Proven ability to manage large departments and competing priorities.
  • Familiarity and experience with data preservation, collection, processing, review, and production processes.
  • The ability to train attorneys of all levels of experience on e-discovery and artificial intelligence technologies and the benefits of implementing such technologies in litigation to optimize client experience.
  • The ability to oversee and supervise function-area processes and staffing to ensure adherence to best practices and operational standards.

Compensation: $275,000.00-$375,00.00, plus bonus.
