Business Development and Communications Manager

Summary

The New York Business Development & Communications Manager (“NYBD&C Manager”) is responsible for organizing and managing a range of marketing and business development activities relevant to the New York office’s practices and lawyers, while ensuring that business development, marketing and communications initiatives in the New York office are aligned and consistent with the firm’s strategies and policies.

The NYBD&C Manager is expected to perform all job duties with a commitment to providing superior service to clients, producing work product of the highest quality, and fostering an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. The NYBD&C Manager will collaborate with the BD&C team to manage the proposals process in New York (including drafting responses to RFPs and pitches, preparing credentials statements, and collecting information on new matters); create branded marketing materials and collateral; draft directory, award and survey submissions; coordinate thought-leadership opportunities; manage conference attendance and sponsorships; prepare competitive intelligence reports; and oversee profile-raising activities.

The NYBD&C Manager will work alongside the BD&C team to identify and drive forward new firmwide initiatives and ensure best practice. Above all, the BD&C Manager is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s lawyers and business services teams, while maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

The position involves working closely in a small team environment with the BD&C team and the

New York partners to:

  • Ensure that all BD&C initiatives of the New York office are compliant with Firm policies, procedures and strategic priorities.
  • Support business development activities in the New York office.
  • Facilitate communication within the New York office.
  • Convene regular meetings with the BD&C Director to review performance against agreed business development objectives.

Business Development 

  • Working closely with the BD&C Director to assist in the development and implementation of strategic business development plans focused on client development, profile raising and revenue generation by coordinating and tracking the partners’ and groups’ efforts and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Preparing proposals/RFP responses in coordination with the lawyers. Tracking and reporting on proposal wins and losses. Identifying and promoting best practices on pitch and proposal creation.
  • Working with the BD team to track, maintain and capture case/matter experience for inclusion in proposals and other marketing materials.
  • Ensuring that the New York office’s marketing materials are updated quarterly and appropriately reflect practice group experience.
  • Working with the BD&C Director and Chief Administrative Officer to prepare annual business development budgets and manage client development expenses. Actively promoting the use of the Firm’s CRM system, InterAction.

Branding, Communications and Events

  • Coordinating with the BD&C Director and London BD&C Manager to facilitate internal and external communications about successes and opportunities within and among the office, utilizing communication vehicles such as social media, intranet, website, etc.
  • Coordinating with the BD&C Director and London BD&C Manager to support firmwide campaigns, including developing, preparing and distributing content and thought leadership including videos, podcasts, client updates and newsletters to promote the office, our practices and individual lawyers, as appropriate.
  • Maintaining and updating profiles and biographies of New York-based lawyers.
  • Working with the firm’s external PR agency to raise the profile of the New York office and its lawyers, including writing and speaking opportunities.
  • In collaboration with the BD&C Director, our PR agency and our external directories consultant, drafting and coordinating award entries and directory submissions.
  • Identifying and assessing opportunities to participate in and/or sponsor conferences, seminars and forums, as well as assessing speaking and writing opportunities to ensure they are aligned with the goals of the Firm, offices and practices.
  • Working closely with the BD&C Director and Senior Events and BD Coordinator to assist with internal and external events.
  • In collaboration with the New York Office Manager and the firm’s Pro Bono Lead, identifying local branding and visibility initiatives in New York to help raise the profile of the firm in the local community through volunteering/charitable work.

Market Research

  • Providing lawyers with regular updates regarding new business opportunities, market trends and competitive threats.
  • Providing competitive and business intelligence reports.

Requirements

  • Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and
  • PowerPoint are essential; experience with InterAction and Vuture is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a marketing-related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of related marketing experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.

Compensation: $150,000.00-$180,000.00, annually, plus bonus.
