Summary

The Manager of Learning and Development develops, implements, and evaluates training and development plans and programs across the firm.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Director of Professional Development to develop and implement training curricula to support the growing needs of Firm lawyers at all levels
  • Builds formal training programs and opportunities for Firm business staff.
  • Identifies department and practice-specific training needs, generates training topics, and ensures CLE–standard compliance.
  • Researches, identifies, implements, and promotes external training opportunities.
  • Develops individualized training pathways for attorneys and business staff that align with job-specific core competencies.
  • Explores e-learning opportunities and develops strategies to best deploy such resources to the attorney and business staff populations.
  • Responsible for the integrity of training programs and pathways on the firm’s LMS.
  • Consults and collaborates with practice group leaders and department heads to assess training needs and design new training initiatives.
  • Evaluates and collaborates with outside consultants to create customized training programs and individual coaching sessions.Oversees and administers the career development plans for all associates and special counsel.
  • Oversees CLE compliance for internal and external training programs, individual attorneys and clients, and firm provider accreditation.
  • Oversees off-site development retreats for associates and special counsel.
  • Engages and partners with external consultants and coaches.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to develop and organize summer and first-year associate orientation and training programs.
  • Partners with Recruiting team to develop and administer Firm summer associate program.
  • Serves as a firm-wide resource for coaching and professional development.
  • Maintains relationships with NALP, PDC and other professional development organizations.
  • Oversees the work of several direct and indirect reports within the PD department and the larger People Team.

Supports, promotes, and participates with other professional development and associate life projects as necessary, including mentoring, outplacement, morale initiatives and other efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. JD preferred
  • 5 years professional development experience in a professional services firm.
  • 3 years of experience as a learning and development leader within a law firm.
  • Experience designing and implementing effective and comprehensive training initiatives.
  • Extensive knowledge of current trends and innovations in the legal professional development space. Coaching certification or a desire to become a certified coach.
  • Thoughtful, creative, resourceful, and resilient problem-solver with a demonstrated ability to drive innovation and change and a strong interest in lawyer development and training.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, including ability to work with and present to firm management and partnership.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work both independently and as a team player; demonstrated ability to inspire positive morale while simultaneously enhancing employee productivity and work ethic.
  • Strong execution and organizational skills and ability to perform detailed work accurately, thoroughly, and consistently. • Ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Desire to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Flexibility and creative problem-solving skills.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $180,000 – $215,000, exempt. Salary depends on experience and qualifications.
