Summary
The Legal Assistant is responsible for providing logistical and administrative support both professionally and personally to attorneys, as required. Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and always display a calm and professional demeanor. The position is ideal for those with an intent to pursue law school or a higher degree program. Exemplary oral and written communication skills are required. This is a fully in-office position.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research on legal and financial topics
- Create letters, memos, presentations and spreadsheets utilizing Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Provide support to Paralegal team
- Redline, revise, proofread and draft legal correspondence
- Maintain attorney filing system and process client bills as requested
- Screen telephone calls and deliver accurate telephone messages in a timely manner
- Establish and maintain calendar and reminder systems, including managing deadlines, scheduling meetings and appointments and making travel arrangements
- Greet clients and visitors
- Maintain good relations with clients and observe confidentiality of attorney-client relationship
- Coordinate with other managers
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Notary Public license or willingness to become a Notary
- Past exposure to a legal environment preferred
- Thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor at all times
- Works independently, taking ownership of administrative tasks for business purposes and personal matters
- Functions in a team environment to coordinate coverage and overtime requests
- Multi-tasks and manages competing priorities ensuring a seamless follow-through of all requests
- Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and is able to communicate effectively
- Detail-oriented and results driven, providing appropriate solutions to questions
- Willingness to work overtime, both early morning and evenings, as requested
- Proactive, self-starter, who anticipates needs
- Maintains confidence and poise during high-stress situations
Compensation
The expected salary for this position is $50,000, nonexempt.
