Knowledge Management Attorney – Private Funds

Summary
The Knowledge Management Attorney will partner with the Private Funds practice group to encourage and support the efficient practice of law by facilitating a knowledge-sharing culture. To this end, the Knowledge Management Attorney is engaged in developing and maintaining private funds practice resources and establishing best practices to collect and organize internal work product and capture firm experience. In addition, they will create and explore innovative solutions to increase attorney efficiency and provide additional client value.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with practice group leaders to assess and identify the knowledge needs of the group.
- Advances the group’s knowledge strategy by pursuing database projects related to the management of the group’s experience, market intelligence, precedents and resources.
- Guides firm technology teams as to data and feature requirements, serving as subject matter expert in the development of new databases. Reviews legacy databases to facilitate the migration of key data and document sets to new platform.
- Creates and maintains knowledge banks by curating and cataloging work product, market surveys, forms, memos, practice tips, training materials and more.
- Implements processes to ensure that practice resources remain up-to-date and are catalogued consistently to maintain the integrity of database, ultimately providing lawyers with easy access, to increase efficiency in practice.
- Reviews and analyzes operative documents to identify and memorialize key terms and data points for purposes of benchmarking, tracking market trends and preparing client materials.
- Supports practice group members with locating key precedent material by identifying and framing legal issues, teaching efficient search techniques, and locating relevant materials using internal and external electronic resources.
- Trains and mentors practice group members on how to leverage knowledge resources and precedents.
- Cultivates relationships with the lawyers to learn their pain points and stay current on issues that will impact their practice. This includes attending practice group meetings, staying current on legal issues and meeting regularly with practice group leaders.
- Promotes awareness of KM initiatives and solicit practice group participation in the furtherance thereof, including piloting new products or workflows or introducing new ideas.
- Maintains awareness of legal technology market and tools leveraged by other firm practice areas to identify applicability to Private Fund’s workflow. Identify avenues for machine learning, automation and digitization within practice.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor. 2+ years of legal experience practicing in the private/investment funds area.
- Familiarity with private funds related documents, concepts and terms.
- Highly organized individual with interest in maintaining knowledge sources and ensuring integrity of data and document management.
- Interest in working within the intersection of the practice of law and technology to find creative ways to solve business problems.
- Ability to serve as intermediary between lawyers and technologists to translate practice needs into technical requirements.
