Talent & Attorney Development Manager

Summary
The Talent & Attorney Development Manager serves in a lead role to provide strategic direction and implementation for all aspects of Talent Management for the Richmond and Washington offices, including recruiting of summer associates, entry-level and lateral attorneys, legal personnel, attorney development, diversity, equity and inclusion, and alumni relations. This position also has responsibility for the firmwide Attorney Development function for a number of litigation and regulatory practice groups for 30+ associates.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Firmwide
• Manage the attorney development function for a number of litigation and regulatory practice groups, which includes a focus on the feedback/performance management process, work assignments, coaching, mentoring, and development plans, workforce planning, training, onboarding/integration, employee relations, diversity, equity, and inclusion and metrics review and reporting
Office
• Oversees the counseling and administration of attorney personnel matters to include arrivals, leaves, transfers, temporary assignments, and departures
• Responsible for all aspects of the lateral recruitment process, including engagement with headhunters, scheduling interviews, and managing offer decisions with Talent/Diversity Leads and Practice Group Leaders
• Manages the onboarding and integration experience for new attorneys and lateral hires
• Provides guidance and oversight to Talent Management staff members on the implementation of the firm’s entry-level recruitment strategies through the on-campus and in-office interview process and summer associate program
• Works with the Professional Development team to implement and administer the firm’s strategies for developing and advancing all attorneys through training, mentoring, career development, performance evaluations, and other development initiatives, including oversight of the office’s Associate Advisory Committee
• Works with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team to implement and administer the firm’s inclusion efforts with respect to recruitment, development, advancement, and retention of diverse and women lawyers
• Builds credibility and visibility as an effective spokesperson for attorneys and provides input to Directors and Senior Leaders regarding attorney perspectives and satisfaction within the office
• Monitors emerging trends in peer law firms with regards to all aspects of Talent Management
• Monitors and manages assigned budgets to control costs and use resources efficiently.
• Prepares and maintains such reports as are necessary to carry out the functions of Talent Management
• Supervises and trains Senior Talent Management Coordinator(s), Talent Management Coordinator(s), Talent Management Assistant(s), and Talent Management Intern(s)
Minimum Qualification
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; master’s degree or JD is a plus.
Experience: Seven years of progressively responsible experience in a law firm or similar environment required; substantial exposure to recruiting and/or professional development in a law firm and/or experience as a practicing lawyer in a litigation or regulatory practice preferred.
Special Knowledge: Organizational development, diversity and inclusion, and career counseling.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite and/or related software; aptitude to learn and become proficient quickly in a variety of software/systems. Experience with recruiting, human resources, or similar systems (such as Oracle, ViDesktop, etc.) required.

Qualifications: Ability to manage people and maintain a good rapport with various personnel at all levels. Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential documents and see projects through to completion. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and experience with navigating the delicate/sensitive conversations within those levels.
