Continuing Legal Education and Attorney Compliance Specialist

Summary
The CLE and Attorney Compliance Specialist is primarily responsible for maintaining our database for, and counseling lawyers on, attorney continuing legal education (CLE) compliance. The position will play a key role in assisting lawyers with the maintenance of the attorney registration and CLE compliance and answering questions concerning periodic license renewals. The position will play a key role in assisting with the maintenance of the firm’s status as an accredited provider of CLE in New York and California, including by working with other members of the PD and business development teams to ensure curricula training programs, practice group trainings, firm-wide programs, and CLE eligible client events meet the appropriate standards and criteria for NY and CA CLE accreditation. This position can be based in CA, DC or NYC.
Responsibilities
Reporting to and working closely with the Manager of Professional Development, and in collaboration with the Director of Legal Personnel and team, the Specialist’s primary responsibilities include:
- Serve as the primary contact for lawyer CLE inquiries, and provide ongoing communication regarding CLE rules and regulations, CLE deadlines, CLE compliance status, and attorney license renewal compliance.
- Serve as primary CLE contact for course accreditation for both internal trainings and client programs, including ensuring CLE requirements are met, entering CLE program data and materials into CLE database (viLMS), processing and issuing CLE certificates, and managing CLE course files.
- Work with the Professional Development Manager to maintain firm’s CLE accredited provider status in New York and California, including managing CLE files and assisting with preparation of annual and monthly reports.
- Stay up to date on CLE rules and regulations for all jurisdictions in which the firm tracks CLE compliance, including by maintaining a network of industry peers.
- Support the Director of Legal Personnel with ongoing monitoring of lawyer registration status and periodic auditing of state and federal court admissions.
- Assist lawyers and their assistants with filings with CLE boards, including applications for extensions and publication credit.
- Assist with the drafting of internal communications and know-how resources around CLE and attorney compliance.
Qualifications
- At least 5 years’ experience working in a professional services environment on attorney compliance.
- Knowledge of the New York and California continuing legal education and attorney registration rules required.
- Familiarity with managing CLE tracking software, and willingness to learn viDesktop, required; an in-depth knowledge of viDesktop is a major plus.
- Customer-service orientation and strong interpersonal skills in order to effectively interact with lawyers at all levels and their assistants.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, England & Wales and Hong Kong attorney education requirements a major plus.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities.
* While this position is not expected to regularly require overtime, some flexibility during busy seasons (with advanced notice) a plus.
