Manager of Litigation Paralegals

Summary

The Manager of Litigation Paralegals is responsible for hiring, training and managing the work allocation of Paralegals and other administrative staff within the Firm’s Litigation Support department.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees Paralegal operations to ensure effectiveness in providing support to the Litigation department;
  • Maintains effective relationships with paralegal teams and attorneys to constantly improve internal relationships and communication;
  • Works closely with Human Resources on the recruiting process and suggests enhancements to our processes;
  • Collaborates with the Human Resources department on personnel related issues and to counsel paralegals on work performance;
  • Works closely with the Corporate Paralegal Manager on developing, proposing and implementing Paralegal policies and procedures, as needed, to ensure consistency across departments;
  • Manages the status of cases and assignments with Case Managers, and ensures work allocation within teams;
  • Manages the orientation and training program for the new Litigation Paralegals;
  • Analyzes data regarding Paralegals’ hours and work allocation between teams;
  • Manages the department’s timecard approval process;
  • Oversees all aspects of performance, including financial performance, of Litigation Paralegals;
  • Prepares the annual budget and exercises cost control;
  • Communicates with the Firm’s lawyers, including Partners, to meet the needs of clients;
  • Supervises the Litigation Translator;
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations and salary administration;
  • Coordinates with the Events and Conference Services team for aspects of trial site set up and administration, including personnel arrangements for the trial site to work effectively and efficiently; and
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required;
  • 7+ years of experience in a managerial role in a law firm, preferably in litigation support, in a practice with complex litigation;
  • Must have a strong understanding of complex litigation and the Firm’s litigation practice;
  • Strong managerial skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and high standards of judgment and discretion;
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion;
  • Ability to work well under pressure;
  • Ability to coordinate multiple matters at a time; and
  • Ability to work additional hours, as needed.
