Summary

Premier, forward thinking, global, boutique, litigation law firm is seeking an entrepreneurial self-starter with drive to co-own and work with the firm’s specialized global practices. No existing knowledge is required, but the ideal candidate will have deep intellectual curiosity to constantly learn new international legal concepts in a continuously evolving product area, and a desire to teach others. The candidate will be embedded within case teams for our most significant international cases, and their primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to: (a) capturing and disseminating legal and strategic innovations in real time, and (b) providing case teams with relevant and precise knowledge that already exists within the firm’s knowledge databases. 

Primary Responsibilities

Participate as active member of case teams including reading all work product, joining strategy calls, and:

  • Advising team on a real time basis about KM content (information upload)
  • Capturing new ideas generated and work product for future matters (information download)
  • Develop a deep, substantive understanding of Claims, Monetization and Dilution techniques and tactics
  • Capture legal and strategic innovations that are developed by case teams and disseminate that knowledge to relevant lawyers within the firm
  • Provide case teams with the firm’s legal and strategic knowledge as needed
  • Become the go-to source for all international knowledge content and take ownership of its curation
  • Undertake legal research in relation to specific case requirements, or in the pursuit of knowledge applicable to multiple cases
  • Draft template documents, complete them for case teams when required, and maintain a library of precedents
  • Educate global attorneys and legal professionals on techniques and tactics used in cases throughout the world, client-facing solutions and knowledge management resources
  • Coordinate the maintenance and organization of matter documents and libraries and databases
  • Identify relevant content, including third-party resources and forms, and integrate them into workflows
  • Understand the firm’s available resources and technology, and develop best practices and other programs to drive teams and tasks to the “right” resources (whether people, process or technology)
  • Serve as a one-on-one resource for knowledge-related questions and issues
  • Develop and maintain case studies for use in marketing and business pitches, as well as develop and maintain portal pages and other online resources 

Requirements

  • Juris doctorate (J.D.) (or non-US equivalent) from an accredited university or college (admission to practice in good standing in a US jurisdiction preferred but not essential)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as attorney (with exceptions considered on case-by-case basis)
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to present complex ideas to attorneys, managers, clients, in layman’s terms
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization and/or specific direction exists
  • Familiarity with best practices and technology to manage workflows, documents and communications
  • Understanding of the importance and relevance of knowledge management, practice and project management and efficiency to help the firm meet its overall business plan
  • Excellent analytical, project management, prioritization, and organization skills
  • Ability to work independently with good judgment, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and quickly prioritize projects
  • Ability to work collaboratively at all levels
  • Flexible team player with ability to approach problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm, and innovation
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including a positive outlook; tact and diplomacy skills are a must
