Senior Manager of Learning and Development

Summary

The Senior Manager of Learning and Development will work alongside the Learning & Development team and will be responsible for all attorney training, including designing and implementing creative and innovative programs that will increase learning and retention of information.  The Senior Manager of Learning and Development will work closely with attorneys, case teams, Knowledge Management, Attorney Development, Strategy and Legal Staffing & Utilization Departments to create learning interventions and competency programs for attorneys and staff.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, and implement legal skills training programs to support attorney development to meet the changing needs of the organization
  • Identify and implement new technologies and methodologies to increase the effectiveness of the learning experience and improve attendance
  • Evaluate the learning programs to determine their effectiveness and continuously strive to make improvements
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on the learning initiatives, progress, and measured success
  • Contribute to the planning, design and implementation of a comprehensive competency and core skills program
  • Plan and execute the annual all-attorney training retreats, including designing agenda, content and programming
  • Serve as a resource to attorneys to develop and identify appropriate learning and development opportunities
  • Prepare and complete various ad hoc projects, presentations, reports and materials related to training programs to evaluate continuous effectiveness of programs
  • Provide support for questions and feedback related to learning initiatives
  • Supervise, manage and develop supporting staff
  • Assign, delegate and coordinate the work of junior team members to ensure the department’s objectives are met timely and accurately
  • Act as project lead for special projects assigned by the Director of Learning and Development
  • Assist with ad hoc projects as needed and work with external vendors on program delivery 

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience designing and leading strategic learning and development programs based on business objectives required
  • B.A. Degree
  • Learning, Training and Development experience in professional services organizations preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience with professional development program design and implementation
  • Creative and critical thinker who can think out of the box to develop new and innovative ways to meet and improve learning for attorneys and business professionals
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized and able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work across several different departments in a fast-paced office environment and collaborate and maintain a good rapport with various personnel at all levels
  • Strong executive presence, communication (verbal, written, presentation), facilitation, and training skills with experience engaging and partnering at all levels
  • Proactive and able to effectively balance priorities and have the ability to follow up and follow through
  • Able to follow direction, work independently, and provide status updates, as appropriate
  • Must be flexible in order to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency using CE Manager, Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
