Director, Business Development-Practices

Summary

The Director, Business Development-Practices is a seasoned business development executive who drives strategy and effective client development across all firm’s business units.  The Director will lead and provide direction and mentorship to a leading business development team to execute on firm wide initiatives, identify new opportunities, integrate laterals by setting operational goals and guidelines, processes, metrics and priorities.  He/she will collaborate with other senior leaders in the marketing & business development team, business services leaders and will have high visibility with practice leaders and executive leadership. This position reports to directly the firm’s Chief Marketing Officer. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Senior Business Development Managers in helping with the development and implementation of the business plans and targeted business development initiatives of the practice groups and their partners.
  • Provide advice and guidance in development of guidelines and processes aligned with Firm’s strategic plan; assist business units and practice groups to achieve business development objectives while optimizing profitability
  • Facilitate the development and execution of business units and practice group business development plans
  • Develop and support programs to enhance client service including client satisfaction feedback programs and development of business development initiatives to penetrate new markets
  • Oversee identification and development of target markets, segments and individual prospects for new business through market research
  • Develop and coordinate strategic processes within the team including maintenance of documentation, collateral and pitch repository.
  • Manage firm-wide strategy and responses on legal directories and submissions
  • Ensure development and production of promotional, pitch and collateral materials including for the firm web and intranet sites
  • Identify and implement marketing and business development training programs for BD team and attorneys
  • Provide team activity metrics that identify market trends and activity
  • Foster an effective organizational structure for implementation of business development and marketing strategies including annual budget recommendations and team management
  • Coordinate with the Senior Communications Advisor to increase visibility of the firm in the legal, business and general media
  • Assume other responsibilities that may be assigned as needed

  • Knowledge of legal and business media 

Education & Experience

  • Minimum ten years of marketing and business development in a professional services firm
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree such as a J.D. or M.B.A. preferred

  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours as needed
  • Ability to travel periodically as needed
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 pounds
