Summary

The Sr. Specialist – Media Relations will be responsible for helping to raise our client’s profile utilizing all our media and message channels, as well as executing high level elements of our awards program. This strategic position reports to the associate director of communications and works closely with members of the communications and business development teams, as well as lawyers worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Help to plan and execute visibility programs for the firm, its practices and individual partners, in alignment with the firm’s business objectives, across distribution channels that include print and broadcast media, online and social media, and more.
  • Research and synthesize information needed for interviews and background discussions with media and awards granting bodies. Draft talking points, interview capsules and other prep materials.
  • Prepare and coach lawyers for interviews and press interactions as needed. Create thoughtful, high quality prep materials and provide them in a timely fashion to lawyers prior to interactions with media.
  • Work with the associate director to repurpose content produced throughout the firm, including thought leadership, client memos, byline articles, conference presentations and the like, for potential media pitches and alerts, web site usage, distribution via social media, external publication and so on.
  • Build relationships with key business and legal reporters, editors and producers.
  • Collaborate with other members of the communications team to execute creative campaigns around special projects and draft content.
  • Develop reporting metrics for evaluating and tracking our visibility programs and media coverage.
  • Oversee the work of communications coordinators and writer consultants as appropriate.
  • In addition, responsibilities related to maintaining firm and client information are to be adhered to by all employees. This includes complying with the firm’s information security policies, protecting firm assets from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference, and reporting security events or potential events or other security risks to management.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of experience in a marketing or PR capacity in a law firm, financial institution, or other professional services firm, or with a PR agency specializing in professional services clients.
  • Experience working with senior executives/partners.
  • BA, BS or equivalent required; JD, MBA or other applicable graduate degree is a plus.
  • Understanding of transactional and litigation terminology and processes.
  • Excellent research, writing/editing, proofreading and grammar skills, with a high level of attention to detail. (A writing and editing test is required.)
  • Outstanding communication skills and a poised, professional manner that will enable the firm’s most senior partners to have confidence in the applicant’s judgment and recommendations.
  • Proficiency in standard spreadsheet, database, word processing and presentation applications (e.g., Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe).
  • Proficiency in utilizing social media platforms for research and posting (e.g., LinkedIn, Instagram).
  • Knowledge of any CRM system and PR research tool is also helpful. The Firm provides additional training in core software programs, if needed, to enhance skills and speed of work.
  • Ability to work in a demanding professional environment to demonstrate good judgment, handle time-sensitive requests from multiple lawyers, across time zones, and to generate quality work product in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation

The base salary range offered for this role will be between $100,000 and $130,000.  When determining a candidate’s compensation offer, elements unique to each person are taken into consideration including but not limited to skill set, experience level, performance, professional certifications, degrees and location, as well as the needs of the Firm. The total compensation package for this position may include overtime pay, discretionary bonuses and other benefits.
