The Senior Researcher conducts legal and non-legal research services using print and electronic resources. Liaise with and provide support for other Information Services areas, with emphasis on Conflicts.

Essential Functions

  • Provides both quick reference and in-depth research services to attorneys, legal assistants and firm management, making use of print materials in the collection, electronic resources and outside sources.
  • Conducts confidential research on new clients and new ventures in support of business development efforts.
  • Instructs attorneys and legal assistants in the use of library resources and guides them in their research.
  • Trains attorneys and legal assistants in the use of special online databases (CCH, VitalLaw, Preqin, Pitchbook, HeinOnline, etc.) as needed.
  • Administers alerts on relevant regulations, SEC disclosures, and court filings on various clients or topical subjects.
  • Leads special projects including evaluating, selecting and checking internet websites for inclusion on firm’s intranet.
  • Determines research and knowledge needs in consultation with individual attorneys and practice groups and delivers new resources.
  • Evaluates and provides recommendations for new and existing research applications and products, as well as keeps abreast of enhancements to existing online and other research services.
  • Responsible for contributing to the evaluation, selection and the maintenance the firm’s intranet reference collections.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the print collection and electronic resources and shows proficiency in the use of online databases including search strategy and syntax as well as licensing restrictions.

Other Responsibilities

  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned, and for the Information Services area in general.
  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Studies, Library and Information Science or related field preferred but not required.

Experience And Skills Required

  • 5 to 7 years of relevant research experience in a law firm environment.
  • Substantial research skills and a deep understanding of research strategies
  • Knowledge of print and online legal and non-legal research tools and methodologies.
  • Proficiency with online databases such as Bloomberg, Capital IQ, LexisAdvance, WestlawNext and Intelligize.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to produce a high quality and accurate work product with minimal supervision in an atmosphere of multiple projects, shifting priorities, and extremely tight deadline pressure.
  • Ability to write effective business correspondence that presents information and/or responds to questions from attorneys or staff in a professional and courteous manner. This includes reasonable ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills.

Salary: $100,00.00-$110,000.00, dependent on experience
