Job Description

The Legal Project Manager will be responsible for working with legal case teams and business liaisons to manage the client relationship, legal workstreams, critical case financials and firm best practices. While overseeing legal, strategic and financial operations on cases, this role will have the unique opportunity to maximize utilization of legal talent, enhance risk management and increase profitability by focusing on compliance with firm protocols and best practices.  

Supervisor-Director, Global Legal Services 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Strategy Department to ensure business strategy is communicated to and executed by case teams
  • Work with the Legal Department on conflicts, engagement letters and regulatory issues to assess legal risk
  • Collaborate with Global Legal Services teams on ensuring legal talent is appropriately deployed and that litigation teams are adequately supporting cases
  • Oversee and enhance client and case team communications
  • Ensure compliance with firm protocols and best practices so that proper authorizations and documentations are maintained on cases and properly executed.
  • Foster and promote firm culture initiatives
  • Initiate ideas for improving profitability of matters and work with the Finance Department and attorneys on case teams (usually multi-jurisdictional) to develop case matter plans, budgets and timelines
  • Coordinate regular project team meetings in consultation with the partners and/or lead associate(s). Develop project plan for idea generation meetings, prepare notes and follow up on action items. Plan and track timelines, milestones and dependencies
  • Engage in creative and innovative thinking; be able to spot issues, troubleshoot and implement solutions
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement of processes, policies, and procedures for legal project management objectives
  • Develop and analyze progress reports and/or follow up with lawyers on matter plans that require modification
  • Assist in the development of legal project management tools, resources and technologies, including software, templates, checklists, databases and forms
  • Develop project management training for all members of case teams
  • Develop and present communications of legal project management successes for use in external and internal firm communications 


  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in legal project management
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • JD or MBA degree preferred
  • Deliver strong customer service, commit to meeting deadlines and multitask in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Understand law firm processes and attorney-client relationships
  • Manage large projects with complex variables and budgets
  • Can be relied upon to keep the legal team informed of the project status and provide input on actions that may be necessary to keep the project on track
  • Strong executive presence; cooperate with teams of partners, associates and other legal personnel as well as collaborate with various business departments
  • Demonstrate problem solving and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Exhibit a high degree of initiative and attention to detail
  • Research, collect, manipulate, and analyze data
  • Demonstrate understanding of process and project management concepts, including establishing workflows and use of process mapping and after-matter reviews

  • Displays strong time management skills. Responds quickly and positively to shifting demands and opportunities. Able to work under tight deadlines, handle multiple detailed tasks simultaneously, prioritize appropriately and delegate to others where needed
  • Strong technical skills, including proficiency using Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
