Summary

The Directories and Rankings Manager (Manager) will work under the guidance of the Director of Marketing Operations to manage the Firm’s participation in key legal directories and other rankings and awards organizations.

Firm values directories and awards as a significant benchmarking tool. This role focuses on increasing rankings and recognition for the firm and its lawyers, and endeavors to consistently improve the firm’s efficiency and application of best practices pertaining to directories and rankings. The Manager serves as a central point of contact and works closely with global Marketing and Business Development colleagues, lawyers, firm management, and the firm’s competitive intelligence and communications teams. The Manager develops and produces submissions and often works on multiple, competing deadlines and is expected to engage pro-actively and strategically with a wide and varied range of stakeholders across the firm, among other duties that may be assigned. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for driving the directories submission process from end-to-end
  • Serve as the central point of contact and leading expert on directories and rankings within the firm, seen as a trusted advisor to marketing and business development colleagues and senior stakeholders
  • Ensuring the firm is well represented in directories and awards in priority areas
  • Ensure firm profiles are up to date for all relevant directories and consistent across all channels
  • Develop and maintain relationships with editors and researchers at the legal directories to understand methodology, advocate on behalf of the firm and its lawyers and communicate relevant information to the firm
  • Administer research calendars, submissions, client references and lawyer interviews on behalf of the firm globally, in close coordination with members of the business development team
  • Provide training, mentoring and advice in all aspects of the legal directory research process
  • Track and analyse submissions and identify areas to improve ranking results while optimizing resource allocation
  • Work with the firm’s communications team and marketing and business development team members to develop and implement a comprehensive plan for communicating the firm’s rankings internally and externally
  • Negotiate commercial agreements with relevant organizations relating to directories
  • Assist team members with writing, reviewing, coordinating or editing directory submissions, awards or other content items
  • Identify, develop and deploy content strategies and campaigns aligned with the firm’s current and future marketing, business development, and communications priorities
  • Assist with other marketing, business development or communications initiatives as needed 

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 5 years’ relevant communications experience at a legal directory or in a law firm environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to create persuasive and targeted custom content
  • Extensive knowledge of directories, rankings and awards in the legal industry
  • Great networking and advocacy skills; able to build relationships with stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Comfortable multi-tasking and working on multiple competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs if necessary

Salary: Highly competitive above market compensation
