The Lateral Recruiting Coordinator works with the Lateral Recruiting Manager, in support of the recruiting process for lateral associate, International Associate Program (IAP), Legal Assistant Program, LL.M, staff and contract attorney candidates in the New York and Washington, DC markets.


  • Assist with various aspects of associate lateral hiring, International Associate Program (IAP), Legal Assistant Program, LL.M, staff and contract attorney candidates including:
  • Act as liaison with search firms, prospective candidates, and Shearman lawyers
  • Work with the lawyers, in collaboration with the Lateral Recruiting Manager and the New York Worldwide Recruiting team, to coordinate outreach as appropriate per program
  • Prepare interview packets, candidate presentation materials and marketing materials
  • Schedule introductory meetings (coordinating with multiple lawyer and candidate schedules) interviews and offer outreach initiatives
  • Meet, greet and educate candidates about the firm as needed
  • Maintain legal recruiting database (Workday), assist with data entry and audit reports to ensure accuracy of information
  • Collect & distribute interview feedback
  • Accurately track all candidates and provide status updates to Lateral Recruiting Manager
  • Act as point of contact for partners and Business Unit Directors (BUDs)
  • Participate in other departmental responsibilities and/or firm-wide projects, as is appropriate (e.g. entry level recruiting, recruiting brochures and website updates, surveys, diversity & inclusion initiatives, etc.)
  • Provide administrative support to the Lateral Recruiting Manager
  • Collaborate with other administrative departments (where appropriate) to identify efficiencies and best practices


  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems preferred (esp. Workday)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Exhibits high level of maturity and excellent judgment
  • High energy, works well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to keep calm and focused despite heavy workload or high stress situations
  • Exhibits strong business acumen
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Able to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and create a pleasant and professional rapport with attorneys, business services colleagues, recruits and other external parties
  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive matters and respond effectively to such situations
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least 2 years of law firm/professional services experience required

Salary: $70,000.00-$75,000.00, dependent on experience
