Essential Job Requirements

  • Identify and resolve conflicts of interest associated with the admission of lateral candidates and with new business intakes;
  • Review information provided by candidates in response to lateral attorney questionnaires and/or other documents related to prior employment;
  • Communicate with lateral candidates regarding the needs for complete and accurate client and related parties information and distinguishing between portable and non-portable business;
  • Arrange for conflict searches to be performed to determine whether the admission of lateral candidates will create conflicts of interest;
  • Analyze and summarize conflict search reports to identify actual and potential conflicts of interest associated with the admission of candidates and new business intakes;
  • Work with candidates and responsible LS attorneys to determine whether conflicts of interest exist and, if so, whether they can be resolved pursuant to ethics rules, ethics opinions and case law in the applicable jurisdictions;
  • Escalate identified potential conflicts and obtain approvals and decisions, as necessary, from firm attorneys during the conflict resolution process.
  • In the event of actual conflicts in which client consent is required, request candidates to pursue waivers from their clients and, when necessary, request the responsible LS lawyers to pursue waivers from their clients;
  • Perform analysis and review of new business forms and provide assistance in the new business intake process as needed;
  • Assist with transitioning new business clients to the Firm for lateral partner hires, including a complete conflicts analysis and resolution, drafting engagement letters and waivers, and assisting with matter opening;
  • Provide timely status reports to the Conflicts and Recruiting Departments regarding the progress of the conflict identification and resolution process.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • JD required
  • Minimum 2 years’ conflict of interest experience in a law firm
  • Familiarity with Intapp Open preferred
  • Knowledge of laws, Rules of Professional Conduct, and risk management requirements governing conflicts of interest and conflicts resolution processes
  • Experience doing legal and corporate affiliation research
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and work within extremely tight deadlines
  • Ability to understand, analyze, interpret, and prepare complex conflict reports
  • General knowledge of transactional and litigation matters and ability to identify when party information is incomplete
  • Familiarity with name aliases of major organizations
  • Ability to treat sensitive/confidential information with appropriate discretion
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all firm policies and procedures
